Derived

Derived is a series of computer generated artworks inspired by the concept of creating designs that are unique to an individual. Each design takes a time and date or geographical location as an input, and generates a deterministic result exclusive to that input/individual.

“Rings”

“Rings” takes a birth date as an input and generates a cross-section of a tree of the same age. This cross-section is then digitally ink-stamped and inverted to highlight every detail and imperfection that makes it unique.

“Moon”

“Moon” takes a birth date as an input and generates a highly detailed image of what the moon’s surface would have looked like on that day from low lunar orbit, emulating the look of the Apollo astronauts’ Hasselblad film cameras.

“Roads”

“Roads” takes a set of latitude/longitude coordinates and generates a detailed map of road networks and shorelines centered around that location.
